چکیده

Water policies have evolved enormously since the Rio Earth Summit (1992). These changes have led to the strategic importance of Water Demand Management. The aim is to provide water where and when it is required using the fewest resources. A key variable in this process is the demand forecasting. It is not sufficient to have long term forecasts, but the current context requires the continuous availability of reliable hourly predictions. This paper incorporates artificial intelligence to the subject, through an agent-based system, whose basis are complex forecasting methods (Box-Jenkins, Holt-Winters, Multi-Layer Perceptron Networks and Radial Basis Function Networks). The prediction system also includes data mining, oriented to the pre and post processing of data and to the knowledge discovery, and other agents. Thereby, the system is capable of choosing at every moment the most appropriate forecast, reaching very low errors. It significantly improves the results of the different methods separately.

Agent-Based Modeling of Day-Ahead Real Time Pricing in a Pool-Based Electricity Market

In this paper, an agent-based structure of the electricity retail market is presented based on which day-ahead (DA) energy procurement for customers is modeled. Here, we focus on operation of only one Retail Energy Provider (REP) agent who purchases energy from DA pool-based wholesale market and offers DA real time tariffs to a group of its customers. As a model of customer response to the offe...

Daily irrigation water demand prediction using Adaptive Neuro- Fuzzy Inferences Systems (ANFIS)

One of the main problems in the management of large water supply and distribution systems is the forecasting of daily demand in order to schedule pumping effort and minimize costs. This paper examines a methodology for consumer demand modeling and prediction in a real-time environment of an irrigation water distribution system. The approach is based on Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inferences System (AN...

Intelligent Decision Support System for Real-Time Water Demand Management

Environmental and demographic pressures have led to the current importance of Water Demand Management (WDM), where the concepts of efficiency and sustainability now play a key role. Water must be conveyed to where it is needed, in the right quantity, at the required pressure, and at the right time using the fewest resources. This paper shows how modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques ca...

On the Bullwhip Effect Measure in Supply Chains with VAR (1) Demand Process

In this paper, a two-echelon supply chain, which includes two products based on the following considerations, has been studied and the bullwhip effect is quantified. Providing a measure for bullwhip effect that enables us to analyze and reduce this phenomenon in supply chains with two products is the basic purpose of this paper. Demand of products is presented by the first order vector autoregr...

DAWN: A platform for evaluating water-pricing policies using a software agent society

Lately there is a transition in water management: policy makers leave aside traditional methods focused on additional-supply policies and focus on water conservation using demand control methods. Water Agencies use water-pricing policies as an instrument for controlling residential water demand. However, design and evaluation of a water-pricing policy is a complex task, as economic, social and ...
